90% athletes making the mistake of training ineffectively. Most basketball players are doing typical bodybuilding routines year round without realizing that an athlete’s goals are much more varied than the typical bodybuilder’s.

What A Bodybuilder Wants To Do

What An Athlete Wants To Do

1. Build muscle 1. Build muscle
2. Build muscle 2. Get stronger
3. Build muscle 3. Gain athleticism/explosiveness
4. Build muscle 4. Become injury resistant
5. Build muscle 5. Balance weightlifting with skill work / competition

As you can see, an athlete needs to work on many different aspects of athleticism beyond just muscle growth. If we take a typical athlete’s goals and compare them to athletic qualities we get the following chart.

What An Athlete Wants To Do

Corresponding Weight-room Quality

1. Build muscle Hypertrophy
2. Get stronger Maximal Strength
3. Gain athleticism/explosiveness Power / Explosive Strength
4. Become injury resistant Mobility/Flexibility
5. Balance weightlifting with skill work/competition  Proper rest/deload cycles

The key to achieving the above for any athlete is proper programming. Stop training ineffectively right now.
